FoxPuppy The original, as it was done was practically untouchable but Liquid Modern puts their own touch to everything they do and this is no exception. Robotic, hypnotic, synthwave, but still very punk at heart.

about

This month (June) marks 35 years since Dead Kennedys released Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death which contained the live recording of "Pull My Strings". If you don't know the history behind the song's performance, you owe it to yourself to go read about it!

According to Far Out Magazine:

"Perhaps the best reflection of Biafra and Dead Kennedys’ take on punk is their classic track ‘Pull My Strings’, which appears on the 1987 compilation Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death. Both criticising the music industry and sampling The Knack’s dad-rock anthem ‘My Sharona’, the song is famous for the part where Biafra delivers a cutting commentary on fame, he asks: “Is my cock big enough, / Is my brain small enough / For you to make me a star?” faroutmagazine.co.uk/five-best-hot-takes-jello-biafra/

We decided to do our own rendition of this classic track as the things that Biafra so poignantly points out about the New Wave scene of the early 80s still holds very true of the music industry today!

lyrics

I'm tired of self respect
I can't afford a car
I want to be a prefab superstar

I want to be a tool
Don't need no soul
want to make big money
Playing rock and roll

I'll make my music boring
I'll play my music slow
I ain't no artist, I'm a business man
No ideas of my own

I won't offend
Or rock the boat
Just sex and drugs
And rock and roll

Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool
My Payola!
Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool
My Payola!

You'll pay ten bucks to see me
On a fifteen foot high stage
Fatass bouncers kick the shit
Out of kids who try to dance

If my friends say
I've lost my guts
I'll laugh and say
That's rock and roll

But there's just one problem

Is my cock big enough
Is my brain small enough
For you to make me a star
Give me a toot, I'll sell you my soul
Pull my strings and I'll go far

And when I'm rich
And meet Bob Hope
We'll shoot some golf
And shoot some dope

Is my cock big enough
Is my brain small enough
For you to make me a star
Give me a toot, I'll sell you my soul
Pull my strings and I'll go far
